Vampires are real.
Werewolves are real.
Almost everything that has bumped in the night of some myth is real. Though the truth of what and how they are is a bit skewed. There are classes taught right up to the Doctorate level about the creatures of the night. It is a known quantity though with many permutations of the truth. Even acclaimed and lauded professors do not know everything. Partial due to centuries of centuries long campaigns by the vampires to keep the truth from being known.
This board like every other in ‘The Network’ is an extrapolation of the Anita Blake/Meredith Gentry worlds created by Laurell K. Hamilton.
As such certain truths are self evident and others are the product of lots of thought and careful outcroppings of ideas orginated in her works. So it goes without saying no Canon characters form any of her works. No flouting the basic conceits established therein and if there is any doubt please ask before making assumptions.
It’s a dangerous world for characters in here. Hero’s die, villains get away with things, hearts soar and are betrayed, NPC’s have lives and will be missed, and most importantly everyone bleeds…A LOT.
So for Mortals have a care.
For Lycanthropes, always present yourself and don’t piss into the wind by going rogue and expecting to get away with it longer than it takes for someone to check the bars on their phone.
Vampires well its just as dangerous to not follow the established rules of the community but sometimes the Masters want you to think you’re getting away with things.
Arcadians well see the two warnings above… It goes doubly for you stay beneath the radar and makes sure your next of kin knows you’re in town.
That’s the world at large the overarching ideals floating in the ether holding things together.
More locally Things get even more frantic
The Coast is Las Vegas and Atlantic City with a little French Riviera thrown in. It has been many things in its long life including a pirates cove. The vampires here rule by consensus twelve City-states which can be traveled from one end to the other in just under two hours taking the back roads. As such they have learned to lean on each other like no where else in the world.
The Masters like to call what they have the Union. It has a the ring of sarcasm. The Union is led by one chosen Master of Masters who has the final say in what takes place for the region. It is a vampire chosen from amongst the Unions ranks that rules for one decade. In that decade their word is law however as they can not hold power indefinitely as most Masters they must be most politic in whom they anger rule against almost as much as who they favor. It is a dance that most are loathed to partake in however civil service does have its rewards. Hunting grounds, chosen blood servants, knowing what ones enemies are up to and most importantly being all but proof against the internecine strifes that are part and parcel to the body politic of having so many vampires so close together so often.
The Lycanthropes are no better being so pressed in upon themselves makes them far more territorial than elsewhere. Fights are waged over inches and plots of land larger than an acre have caused blood debts paid in buckets.
The Arcadians much like in Vegas feed on the dreams of the gamblers in the area and are worse for wear over it. There’s only so much broken dreams and heartaches they can feed on without it affecting them and it has. They have become twisted in unnoticeable ways. Ways that leak out and leave their marks on the land...
